WHAT'S IN THIS MONTH'S ISSUE:

  • It’s a Musical Life Recap!

  • GLATs & IOWAS exams

  • Upcoming Events & Reminders

  • Teacher’s Appreciation Week

It goes without saying that our Meridian students and special guests of It’s a Musical Life spring show brought the talent, glitz and glam of New York to the Baha Mar Ballroom on April 25th! Performing the best hits of Broadway, parents and guests were delighted as all the classes, along with performers Patrice Murrell, Stazzie Appleyard and Osano Neely, belted out tunes and dance numbers flawlessly. The show was directed and produced by Ms. Lisa, who was assisted by Ms. Yenia, Mr. Dan and the Windsor School Music Academy Band. A special thank you to our wonderful parents and amazing staff for showcasing an event that instills confidence and fosters creativity and community in our children!

  • This Friday, May 3 is Dollars for Duds (First Fridays!). Students can come dressed in their own clothes for $2. Accounts will be charged.

  • May 6 -10 is Teachers Appreciation Week! Our staff are some of the most hardworking, caring, knowledgeable and passionate people I know. Every day they go above and beyond to share their love of learning with our children while serving in other capacities such as nurse, counsellor, mediator, problem solver, to name a few hats. A separate letter will be sent out with suggestions of some ways to show appreciation to your child’s teacher and TA. Additionally, we cannot forget our office administrator, security officer, custodians, cook and special teachers who give selflessly to make Meridian the best place to be! On Friday, May 10 we will close at 3:30 p.m. for a special treat for our staff. Kindly collect students promptly at dismissal time between 2:45 -3:15 p.m. please. There will be no After Care on this day.

  • GLATs - Students in grades 3 and 6 will be taking their GLAT exams May 13-17. A schedule will be sent to parents via email shortly. Minimizing stress is a key to success during exam time. Remind them it’s about being and doing their best! Prepare them by helping them to review their notes in a quiet, well-lit place. Encourage them and build in some down time to help them relax when they come home from school. Ensure they have healthy meals and get adequate sleep by going to bed early. Limit screen time.

  • IOWAs - Students from Rising 5 and Grade 1-6 will sit these exams May 27-30. The IOWAs assess achievement in vocabulary, word analysis, reading, listening, language, mathematics, computation, social studies and science.

  • May 20 - School closed. Whit Monday Holiday.

  • May 24 - Fall Fees Due.

  • For swim class, please note that swim is a graded/mandatory subject for students in Grades 1-6. If your child is unable to participate in the lesson that day due to medical reasons/illness, please send a note to your child’s teacher so they can inform the swim coach. If there are extenuating circumstances preventing your child from swimming on a consistent basis, feel free to reach out to Ms. Courtnee. Please ensure your child has the correct swim kit and that all clothing is clearly labelled with your child’s name. As the days get warmer, remember to pack sunscreen lotion for your child’s skin protection.

  • Due to extenuating circumstances, the Art Show has been postponed until further notice.
