Dear Meridian Family

As we close another wonderful school year, we thank our students, families, and staff for their hard work and support. We have had an amazing year of wonderful memories from an awesome Literacy Week and festive Christmas concert to a memorable Sports Day, and the long-awaited return of our Science Fair. To end on a high note, we will make our Silver Screen debut in two weeks along with wishing our graduating class of 2026 a fond farewell on June 18.

Summer break is a time to rest and recharge. We encourage our children to keep learning alive by reading regularly, exploring the outdoors, staying active, practicing life skills, and discovering new interests. Most importantly, take time to connect as a family through conversations, games, adventures, and shared experiences.

We wish all of our families a safe, happy, and enjoyable summer break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for another great school year on September 1!

Teacher Feature - Dr. Alexandra Chea

After earning a Doctorate in Music and spending seven years teaching in the United States, Dr. Chea, or Ms. Chea (as the students call her), recently returned home to The Bahamas to continue a passion for music education. In addition to teaching music at The Meridian School, Dr. Chea serves as a faculty member in the Woodwinds Department at the University of The Bahamas. Bringing a wealth of experience and expertise, Dr. Chea is excited to inspire and mentor the next generation of musicians and students right here at home.

Classroom Motto: Building confidence through performance and exploration.

Q: How do you keep growing as an educator?

A: To continue growing as an educator, I make a conscious effort to stay up to date with current music education articles and emerging teaching methods.

Q: What is your favourite moment in a typical school day?

A: My favorite moment in a typical school day is when I try to quietly sneak out of my classroom during a break, only to be met by a chorus of students yelling my name and running toward me.

Q: What do you hope your students remember about you years from now?

A: I want them to think back and say that Ms. Alex was always so willing to help and always supported their creativity.

Q: What’s one small thing you do that makes your classroom feel special?

A: I make it a point to give my students space to share about their day or something exciting happening in their lives. Sometimes, having just one moment each day where they feel heard and valued can make a meaningful difference.

Q: What motivates you on the tough days?

A: I become motivated when I witness students being eager to help another student, either with their instruments or music theory questions.

Q: What role do you believe teachers play beyond academics?

A: Teachers are role models, and the experiences students have with their subject teachers can greatly influence how they view both learning and their future careers. A positive and inspiring classroom experience can spark interests, build confidence, and shape the paths students choose to pursue later in life.

Q: How would your students describe you in three words?

A: Tall, Goofy, and Strict.

Q: What’s one lesson you’ve learned from a student?

A: To sing like no one is watching.

Q: What's a song that matches your teaching vibes?

A: Count on Me by Bruno Mars

We also look forward to celebrating our Grade 6 Graduation on the evening of June 18 at 6:30 p.m. Graduating students should arrive no later than 5:45 p.m. Please ensure that students are dressed in their formal school uniform underneath their graduation gown and are wearing their proper dress shoes. Accounts should be settled no later than June 17.

We look forward to sharing these special milestones with our families!
