The Meridian School Behaviour Policy

At The Meridian School we believe….

  • that students thrive better in a secure, orderly and non-disruptive environment.

  • that each child should be given the opportunity to grow and develop to his/her full potential and develop a positive sense of self worth.

  • that all students have the right to a good education that is delivered in an environment that is enriching, creative, and productive.

  • that children succeed better with positive recognition of their efforts rather than focusing on the negative.

  • that all students must understand and accept that they are responsible for their behavior.

  • that parents must share with the school the responsibility for teaching children appropriate, acceptable behavior. By working together in a cooperative manner we can ensure positive student conduct.

  • that all students must know what behavior is acceptable, where it is acceptable and when.

In order to fulfill our beliefs and maintain high standards, we have devised the following expectations of the students at The Meridian School. These are a set of rules that should be adhered to by every child enrolled in the school.

    School - Wide Expectations

    Children are expected to:

Show consideration, courtesy and respect to others and their property.

Walk quietly and safely to and from all activities in an orderly manner.

Avoid the use of profane language and inappropriate gestures.

Leave and enter the school by the designated door. Never run in the car park or turning circle.

Notify the class teacher or office when arriving late or leaving early.

Treat school property with care and respect.

Be in classrooms during class time. To leave the room children are required to get the teacher's permission.

Be diligent in pursuing their studies, attend school regularly and punctually, cooperate, and comply with the rules of the school.

Not play or remain longer than is necessary in the bathroom.

Bring a note to their teacher if they are going home with someone different then their everyday pick up.

Get permission from a member of staff to use the telephone.

Go directly home at dismissal time unless they are staying with their teacher or the after school program.

    School Ground Expectations

    Children are expected to:

Use school and recreational equipment appropriately.

Share equipment and play fairly with others.

Play safe games that will not harm or endanger themselves or others.

Ask for assistance from the adults on duty.

Gather and play in the designated areas only.

Stay outdoors during break times unless an adult on duty has given permission.

Eat in the supervised areas only and behave appropriately, using good table manners.

Be responsible for putting his/her trash into the trashcans.

Listen for the whistle. Freeze on the first whistle and line up in an orderly manner on the second.

    Classroom Expectations:

Each class teacher has reasonable expectations and consequences that contribute to the delivery of the curriculum, classroom harmony, and development of student responsibility.

However, all students should be made aware of the whole-school class listening ladder policy

               L isten
               A sk
               D on't interrupt
               D on't change the subject
    Show E mpathy
       And R espond

Students know what are expected of them and are aware of what will follow if they choose to behave inappropriately. (See Discipline Policy) The choice lies within the student! Our goal is to help students become responsible for their behavior and to be in control of themselves.
